Cycling in Italy - Day 1: Igoumenitsa port

14 / 07/ 2013

Well, here I am at Igoumenitsa, Greece waiting for the morning boat to Brindisi, Italy.
The first step is accomplished.
For the next month or so, I'm about to cycle my way from Puglia region - to Roma, "la citta eterna".

Frappe coffee mounted on the wheel. Thessaloniki style.

I can hear the voices of the pessimists in my head.
"Alex, it's so difficult"
"You're not an athlete"
"What if your bicycle get's fucked up?"
"What if you get involved in a road accident?"
"What if you run out of money?"
"What if someone rapes you?"
"What if you like it?"
"What if he likes you back?"
"What if he is a catholic and your mother doesn't aprove?"
"What religion are your kids going to believe in?"

Don't judge the voices in my head.

Igoumenitsa port view.

The boat sails at 05:00 and I'm here since 19:00.
Trying to kill some time, I'm reading "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco.
It's a shame that I'm in my 30s and still haven't read it.
Crazy monks, Franciscans, Benedicts and all kind of religious wackos.
I can't wait to reach for the part in which they all participate in a massive bondage fest.
I'm sure there is one. It's building up to it.

I went to use the bathroom and the motherfucker took my spot.

End of Day 1.
